Catalin Dorian Florescu ‘s new novel, Jacob Decides to Love, has catapulted him into the front rank of German literature today.
There is hardly any other writer around who writes with such warmth, sensuality, and power, whose voice is both relaxed and fearless, spanning the centuries, and who does not shrink from brutality and cruelty, nor from tenderness or nostalgia. What a storyteller!
Florescu observes every detail, every nuance, and makes his description of rural life come to life like a painting of Breughel, with all its horrors and beauty…
He has written a great novel about a brutal century and a hopeless life which still never sinks into hopelessness. He has transformed it into a real book of love. He deserves our admiration. Elke Heidenreich, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
